What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is the condition in which the skin has a dimpled, lumpy appearance. It usually affects the buttocks and thighs but can also occur in other areas. Cellulite occurs when fat deposits push through the connective tissue beneath the skin. It can happen in both men and women, however women are more often affected by it. The exact cause of cellulite is unknown, but it appears to result from an interaction between the connective tissue in the dermatological layer that lies below the surface of the skin, and the layer of fat that is just below it.
Acoustic Wave Therapy
Acoustic Wave Therapy (AWT) is the latest, effective, non-invasive cellulite reduction treatment now offered at our clinic. After being used to treat kidney stones, it was discovered that AWT could also deliver excellent, long-term results in reduction of cellulite. AWT does not require any incisions, recovery time, and with repeat sessions, produces excellent outcomes for patients for the reduction of cellulite.
How does Acoustic Wave Therapy work?
Acoustic Wave Therapy utilizes pressure waves to target fibrous bands of connective tissue responsible for the unsightly dimpling below the skin called cellulite. With age, the connective tissue stiffens and contracts, pulling down on the skin, thereby creating cellulite. By applying pressure waves to the connective tissue, our medical staff is able to increase circulation, collagen production and tissue elasticity, all of which contributes to reduction of cellulite. AWT strengthens both the dermis and epidermis for a healthy, smooth look.
Acoustic Wave Therapy treatment is comfortable and very simple. The pressure waves are applied to the surface of the skin to break up the fibrous septae, the main component of cellulite. AWT does not call for anesthesia and Acoustic Wave Therapy patients are able to return to work and other daily activities immediately after the procedure.
Patients are typically treated twice per week for three-four weeks. The therapy is painless and requires less than a half hour per session. At your complimentary consultation, Dr.Boateng will discuss whether you could benefit from this treatment, expected results, and cost of the procedure.
